The six-time German champions Borussia Dortmund confirmed they will be letting at least six players leave the club in the summer in a bid to combat their acute financial problems.
Reports say that Dortmund debts are estimated to reach 134.7 million euros (175.5 million dollars) by mid-2006.
Even though the contract of the Nigerian only runs to the end of this season, Dortmund have made it clear they will not extend or renew the deal. In effect, the defensive midfielder who began his professional career in Belgium will have to move elsewhere to play.
"Six or seven players will be leaving us," the club's business spokesman Hans-Joachim Watzke told SportBild magazine.
"The new squad will be trimmed down to 23 or 24 players with a 28 million euro salary cap."
Oliseh returned to Dortmund after he was sacked by Bochum for indispline following a fight with team-mate. The former Nigerian international was on loan to the other German team and took a while to win back a place in Dortmund.
Czech international playmaker Tomas Rosicky, contracted until June 2008, is expected to be one big name departure with Borussia looking for a two-figure sum for the playmaker.
Brazilian Evanilson, Niclas Jensen, Guy Demel, Andre Bergdolmo, Ahmed Madouni and Sunday Oliseh are expected to leave with their lucrative contracts expiring at the end of the season.
But despite the financial problems, Dortmund are keen to hold onto Czech star Jan Koller along with German internationals Christoph Metzelder and Christian Worns.
The 1997 Champions Lague winners are paying the price for gambling heavily on player transfers and wages after floating on the stock market in October 2000.
The club management hoped playing regularly in the Champions League would balance the books but the gamble backfired as they have hardly made any impact at that level ever since.
