President of West African Bar Association, Mr. Femi Falana, has faulted his invitation by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero.
Ehindero, had in the letter dated November 3, 2006, invited Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), Falana, Mr. Yinka Akerele, Mr. Femi Ojodu, and Mr. Ropo Ige, to a meeting in his office at Abuja over the police investigation into serial killings in Ekiti State during the regime of suspended Governor Ayo Fayose.
But Falana, had in the letter dated November 7, 2006, and addressed to the IG, stated that he was outside the country at the moment. He however added even if he was in the country he would never attend the meeting.
He said, It may interest you to know that I would have declined to attend the said meeting if I were in Nigeria in view of the ongoing moves to bungle the inquiry into the cold murder of Dr. Ayo Daramola and other politically-motivated killings that characterised the Ayo Fayose regime in Ekiti State.
He reminded the IG of the Ekiti stakeholders meeting where the IG promised to unravel those behind the serial killings and brought them to book. He however said that he was surprised about the sudden u-turn.
He also said, Curiously, a press conference was hurriedly addressed by the Inspector-General of Police wherein it was disclosed that the murderers of Dr. Daramola could not identify Mr. Goke Olatunji in the identification parade conducted by the police.
However, for reasons best known to the police authorities nothing was said of the several suspects including ASP Gbenga Joseph, the Chief Security Officer of Mr. Ayo Fayose who have been implicated and are being detained for their roles in the cold murder of Tunde Omojola, the attempted murder of Taye Fasubaa and the plot to assassinate Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) at the instance of Mr. Ayo Fayose."
