I've no goals target, says Kanu

As the British tabliods continue to canonise Nigeria's Nwankwo Kanu, who's making headline news in both television and newspapers, the Premiership new goal king, says his blistering form in the league this season is a product of rugged determination and luck rather than setting a goal target for himself.

As the British tabliods continue to canonise Nigeria's Nwankwo Kanu, who's making headline news in both television and newspapers, the Premiership new goal king, says his blistering form in the league this season is a product of rugged determination and luck rather than setting a goal target for himself.

Kanu, who is enjoying the best form of his chequered career is leading the Premiership with seven goals, but he plays down on his goal-scoring nag saying what's more important to him is his team, Porthsmouth, doing well in the league by keeping their heads among the great contenders for the shield.

"At Arsenal, I played the best football of my career," Kanu said. 'But this is close in terms of scoring goals. I have already scored as many times this season as I did all last season and I just want the goals to keep coming.

"It's nice to be top scorer in The Premiership, but I am not a player who sets a target of 20 or 25 goals a season.

"Most of all, I am a team player and I want us to finishing in the top six or eight. That is my motivation."

The Nigerian has scored more goals than soccer machine and Arsenal kingpin, Thierry Henry this season, while Everton star, Andy Johnson is trailing with six, same as Henry. Kanu has played 10 matches with Portsmouth and there are likelihood that he will score more based on his sparkling form, which his boss, Harry Redknap, has described as fantastic even as he continued his good form with a header in the South Coast side's 3-1 success over Reading at Fratton Park on Saturday.

However, Kanu is not looking to finish the campaign with 25 or 30 goals to his name, but just to continue to play his part to help Pompey finish in the Premiership's top eight.
