Kalu condoles families of crash victims

Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has condoled the family of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido, the Government and people of Sokoto State and other families of other victims of the ADC plane that crashed in Abuja on Sunday.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has condoled the family of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido, the Government and people of Sokoto State and other families of other victims of the ADC plane that crashed in Abuja on Sunday.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media Affairs, Iyke Ekeoma, Governor Kalu described the incident as very unfortunate and reiterated his call for the overhaul of the aviation industry.
As a result, the governor has directed that flags should fly at half mast throughout the state for a week and declared three days of mourning in the state in line with the directives of the federal government. The governor also announced the cancellation of all his engagements for the week.

The statement disclosed that Governor Kalu will pay a condolence visit to the people of Sokoto State as soon as possible to condole them on the loss of prominent indigenes of the state.

Dr. Kalu regretted that Sunday's plane crash occurred just as the nation was commemorating the anniversary of a similarly fatal crash in Ogun State last year even as the nation was yet to get over the shock of the Air Force crash that killed several top military officers in Benue State.

The Abia State Chief Executive called on Nigerians irrespective of their religion and faith to pray fervently to God to have mercy on the country and avert further horrors of this magnitude and described as unacceptable, a situation whereby the nation keeps losing its citizens through fatal accidents and called for concerted efforts to check the trend.

He prayed God to grant the families of the departed the fortitude to bear the loss.
