Nigeria's This Day newspaper reports that Education Minister Fabian Osuji was arrested on Thursday for bribing fellow MPs with 50 million nira ($500,000).
The paper says the Minister was detained by the country's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and is being held at the commission's offices in the country's capital, Abuja.
Transparency International ranks Nigeria third on a world corruption scale, behind Bangladesh and Cameroon.
The Government has attempted to crack down on corruption but has been criticised due to continuing scandals and lack of convictions.
