Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Mr Gboyega Oguntuase, has expressed optimism that suspended Governor Ayo Fayose would regain his seat sooner than later.
Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Mr Gboyega Oguntuase, has expressed optimism that suspended Governor Ayo Fayose would regain his seat sooner than later.
Oguntunase, who spoke with Daily Sun in Lagos, said, 'the only legitimate government in Ekiti State today is that of Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose. 'The government is just on suspension due to the emergency declared in the state by Mr President."
The commissioner, who is also a legal practitioner, asserted that 'there was no impeachment in the state" pointing out that the legally constituted panel by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kayode Bamisile, had absolved the governor of all allegations levelled against him.
Oguntunase, who hinged his hope on the judiciary, said, 'the matter is already at the Supreme Court that is looking into establishing the correct interpretation of the law as per everything concerning the suspension of the CJ, the appointment of the acting CJ and all other things that were incidental to all these impeachment moves that had been made."
He expressed hope that the Supreme Court case would lead to incidental findings into the issue of the emergency rule," adding: 'As far as we are concerned, we are anxiously waiting for the ruling of the Supreme Court. And what is more, the National Assembly has not given legislative backing to the emergency rule."
Oguntuase said that 'our respectable leaders in the National Assembly, who are also Nigerians, would look at the issue comprehensively, legally, constitutionally and consider the reality of the situation where the members of the House of Assembly had confessed that they were misled into taking the illegal action."
He therefore, expressed confidence that 'with the legislature and the judiciary, we are going to get a solution out of this emergency rule. The truth would, at the end of the day, triumph over falsehood."
On the possibility of the Fayose government regaining power, the lawyer-turned-politician said: 'I am sure that by the grace of God Almighty, and upon the sure word of God Almighty, Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose would be restored to power soon. We are relying on God, who is more than men, who is more than personal connection, that Fayose's government would be restored because it was illegally and illegitimately put in abeyance."
To him, the executive must have seen more facts why the impeachment did not hold and why the emergency rule was not desirable in Ekiti State, pointing out that 'all the conditions that preceed emergency government were not there on ground in Ekiti State."
While expressing confidence that the outcome of all the activities of the various government organs would be in his government's favour, the commissioner said, 'if the National Assembly will take positive decision and the judiciary also takes positive decision while the executive too have the mind that is flexible and willing to appreciate and respect separation of power, we will triumph and wrong signals would not be sent to the outside world."
