Nemesis caught up with five dare devil armed robbers who were sent to their early grave at the weekend during a shoot-out with men of the Ogun State Police Command.
The robbery suspects numbering seven had broken into an aluminum company in Sango Otta in the wee hours of Sunday (around 2.30 a.m.) into the waiting hands of police who had laid siege to the company following information from an undisclosed member of the public.
The informant who was given N30, 000, according to the Ogun State Police Commissioner, Mr. Tunji Alapinni was approached by the 7-man gang to join them in robbing the company known for its durable roofing sheet.
Rather than join the gang in the heinous act, the man informed the Area Command Office of the Police at Sango Otta, and policemen mounted surveillance on the company for about a week and a half.
"On the D-day, they came as promised which we never thought they would. But when they arrived, it was into the waiting hands of our men.
"It was during exchange of fire with our men that five of them fell to the superior power of the police, while two fled, but we have identified them and our men are on their trail".
The police boss commended the loyalty and hard work of the men and officers of the command and assured that no efforts would go un-rewarded.
In a related development, two robbery suspects were also arrested along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway by the Command.
The suspects who claimed to be Nigeriens, Sule Majima who is now dead and two others, Mohammed Ali, 25, and Ali Juma, 45, had earlier posed as accident victims at Dalemo area of Sango Otta where unsuspected policemen had offered to assist them.
"But on close examination and searching, the police discovered gun, charms, money, cell phone, jewellry and other dangerous weapons on them.
"We became suspicious and scrolled through the GSM set to determine the true owner. After successful calls to some names on the set, we discovered that the phone belongs to an Indian whose house was earlier robbed by the suspects."
Alapini who assumed duty in the state about five weeks ago sounded tough when he warned criminals to leave the state. " I want to tell not only the members of the public in Otta, but in Ogun State generally that this is just the beginning. There is no room for armed robbers here."
