Cole amazed by Kanu quality

Andy Cole believes Portsmouth will not lack a quality finisher when he retires because they have Nwankwo Kanu.

Andy Cole believes Portsmouth will not lack a quality finisher when he retires because they have Nwankwo Kanu.

The Nigerian's header in Pompey's 2-0 win over the Hammers on Saturday made him the Premiership's joint top scorer with six goals.

Cole said: "I can't believe how good Kanu is. Some of the things he can do are phenomenal. He's got six goals already, and I'm sure he'll get more."

Cole insists scoring goals makes him feel 21 again - even though he actually turned 35 on Sunday.

The former England striker believes he still has what it takes to score on a regular basis in the Premiership.

He netted his first goal for the club since his £500,000 move from Manchester City in the summer, just six minutes after his introduction as a substitute against the Hammers.

Cole, who has scored more top-flight goals than anyone else still playing (186) explained: "You may lose half a yard of pace with age, but you gain half a yard in your head.

"I still feel I can score goals at the highest level. The thought that I can't has never really entered my mind. Just because you're older, it doesn't mean you can't score goals.

"If I get myself in the right position, I like to think I can score. It's a great feeling - especially after you've been out a while with an injury like I have.

"It doesn't change for me. I just love scoring goals. I'm 35, but I still feel 21 when I score."
