2007: Agagu picks PDP nomination form amidst fanfare


Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Agagu yesterday picked Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expression of interest and nomination forms in his bid to seek re-election in 2007.

Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Agagu yesterday picked Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expression of interest and nomination forms in his bid to seek re-election in 2007.

The event later turned out to be another rally with thousands of supporters lining the major road to the party secretariat in Akure cheering him endlessly and struggling to shake hands with him.

The governor, though surprised by the large turn out of his ssupporters and party leaders responded by smiling and waving to them he made his way to the party office where as he picked up his Expression of Interest form and Nomination papers.

At the party secretariat, it was a tug of war as it took Governor Agagu over 30 minutes to move through the dancing and jubilant crowd to the office of the party chairman, a distance of about 15 metres from the main road, as party faithfuls and leaders struggled to engage him in pleasantries all the way.

The short ceremony at the party secretariat was witnessed by the Wife of the Govenor, Mrs Funke Agagu, the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Bosede Oluwateru, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, members of the National Assembly from the State and most of the members of the State House of Assembly, all the Central Working Committee members of the state PDP, members of the State Executive Council, Local Government Chairmen, Chairmen of Boards and Parastatals, Chairmen of the PDP from the 18 local government chapters and a host of other party chieftains.

Speaking at the occasion, Alhaji Olanusi Ali, the State chairman informed leaders that it was necessary to give honour to whom it is due not only by allowing the Governor to pick the very first _Expression of Interest and Nomination forms but also doing it in a unique way in the full glare of the people of the state.
Responding, Governor Agagu after recounting the various achievements of his administration in the last three years, gave three factors he described as the sources of his inspiration, namely: God, good friends and the people.

While fielding questions from jpournalists oputside the party's secretariat the Governor, declared that his interest in a second term in office is anchored on the popular view that the impact of good governance witnessed in the past three years should be sustained beyond 2007.
Dr. Agagu further said that there is already a working system in Ondo State leading to erection of vital structures for sustainable development, which he intends to consolidate upon between 2007 and 2011.
