Abia State Government has said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has no reason to ambush the state as it is one of the cleanest states in the country.
The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Anthony C.B. Agbaziere, stated this at the Government House, Umuahia while briefing the press on the invasion of the home of Governor Orji Uzor Kalu's mother by members of the commission early in the week.
Agbaziere said that if members of the commission are looking for a job to do, they should beam their searchlight on the presidency 'If they had invited anyone in Abia, they would have quietly honoured the invitation. Instead of that they are coming in at on unholy hour to harass and embarrass innocent citizens in the name of an arrest.
Can't they see series of allegations being leveled against Mr President, his involvement in Transcorp, PDTF, etc, Agbaziere asked. The commissioner stated that Abia uses 89 per cent of its allocation to run the affairs of the state, notably payment of salaries and pensions.
Why did they choose to attack an innocent woman. If they had succeeded in assassinating her, they wouldn't have admitted that they were the ones on cover said.
He described those who came on that mission as hoodlums and not EFCC officials as they claimed.
He asserted that government functionaries in the state will not run away, stressing that every personnel in Abia State Government is ready to stand for justice.
'Somebody is using the commission against those they know have chances of winning the Presidency. You have not sent invitation to anybody, yet you are declaring the person wanted. What a justifiable way to work?"
He stated that Mrs Eunice Uzor Kalu has nothing to do with the government of Abia State and so does not deserve the embarrassment being meted to her by the commission.
