The Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has condemned in unequivocal terms an alleged assassination attempt on his mother, Elder Mrs. Eunice Uzor Kalu, at her Aba residence by unknown persons in police uniform who claimed they were from Abuja.

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has condemned in unequivocal terms an alleged assassination attempt on his mother, Elder Mrs. Eunice Uzor Kalu, at her Aba residence by unknown persons in police uniform who claimed they were from Abuja.
The Governor, while reacting to the incident which occurred 12:30 Monday morning, described the armed attck as unfortunate, arguing that the mission of the assassins was to take the life of his mother.
The Governor in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Onuoha Udeala, said if not for divine intervention and the resistance put up by the security men at the gate, the assassins would have gained entrance to the residence after shooting for over two hours without success.
He said that in recent time, the mother and members of his family have been receiving death threats from unknown persons, who claimed they were not comfortable with his outspokenness on national issues.
Dr. Kalu called on law enforcement agencies to start full scale investigation on the incident with a view to determining the identity of the gunmen and who sent them.
The Abia State Governor noted that the state has not recorded any politically motivated killing since he assumed office in 1999 and wondered why some persons could embark on this devilish mission for whatever reasons.
He assured that the state government will continue to cooperate with the police, and joint police-military patrol teams to ensure that security of life and property is maintained.
