Staff and students of a primary school (name withheld) in Oshodi area of Lagos State are still in shock five days after a member of staff was found dead in the school's store.
Although the circumstances surrounding the death are still shrouded in mystery, the police in the state, it was learnt, were still collaborating with the school's authorities to unravel the cause.
The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Akinyemi, was a clerical officer in the school before the incident.
Our correspondent learnt that another worker in the school, at bout 7.10am on Tuesday, went to the store to pick an item and as he opened the door, he saw the dangling body of Akinyemi.
He reportedly raised the alarm and ran back to the head teacher's office to report the incident.
The staff rushed to the store to see the body of their colleague, who was believed to have committed suicide.
The 52-year-old man, it was learnt, must have stayed back in the school premises after the close of work on the preceding day.
Rattled by the sight, the school authorities reported the incident at Akinpelu Police Station from where some policemen were sent to the school to verify the claim.
The policemen later invited health officials who removed the decomposing corpse and deposited it at a public mortuary.
Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Olubode Ojajuni, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
Ojajuni, a deputy superintendent of police, said the police could not come to a conclusion on the death, as the deceased did not leave a suicide note.
On whether the police suspected a foul play, the PPRO stated that investigation would show that, but he did not rule out the possibility that some unknown persons might have killed the man and faked the hanging
