Suspected Madman Arrested With N52,000


IBADAN - IT was shock and disbelief yesterday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital when a suspected lunatic was apprehended with a sum of fifty two thousand naira (N52,000) cash found neatly packed in a bag he was carrying.

IBADAN - IT was shock and disbelief yesterday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital when a suspected lunatic was apprehended with a sum of fifty two thousand naira (N52,000) cash found neatly packed in a bag he was carrying.

The madman who was identified as Matthew Adesope was arrested with nine other lunatics following a security report on the overhead bridge leading to the state secretariat complex Agodi Ibadan. Also found in Adesope's possession were five jackets and GSM numbers of some individuals whose identities the security is striving to unmask. The suspects were trailed by security men and arrested at the overhead bridge at the state secretariat, Agodi with two bags containing the items.


The sources said that Adesope was immediately moved to the State Hospital, Adeoyo, Ring Road area of Ibadan for medical examinations to confirm his health status.


It was reliably gathered at the State Hospital yesterday that armed policemen had been stationed at the hospital to keep vigil on the suspected madman.


Speaking on the arrest of the alleged lunatics, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Security and Protocol, Chief Bola Alphonso said the men were arrested following security reports on activities of madmen in and around Ibadan.


According to the governor's aide, "I have briefed the governor on the arrest of the lunatics picked up in different parts of the secretariat complex. The lunatics are ten in number."


As at the time of filing this report, it was learnt that health and security officials are now hunting for suspected madmen in the state capital.


Some residents are already alleging that some madmen were behind the renewed ritual killings in the city. It would be recalled that three men said to be bricklayers were beheaded along Academy area of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway while awaiting vehicles going to Lagos.


Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Femi Adedeji while speaking on the beheaded three men declared that investigations are still on to ascertain those behind the killings.
