The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared wanted the former Kogi State Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared wanted the former Kogi State Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu.
A press statement signed by the commission's Head, Media and Publicity, Osita Nwajah, said Audu was wanted for alleged conspiracy, stealing and fraudulent diversion of government funds as well as money laundering.
Nwajah said before his disappearance, the former governor was last seen addressing a political rally in Lokoja, adding that "all effort to track him down have so far been fruitless. Latest information indicates that he may have fled the country."
The EFCC statement described Audu as a Nigerian, an Igala from Kogi State, light sknined and with tribal marks on both cheeks. He was also identified as being fluent in English, Hausa and Igala languages as well as owning a number of houses in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
The EFCC urged the public and other security agencies to assist in locating the ex-governor, adding that anyone with information on his whereabouts could reach the commission on telephone numbers 09-6441102, 09-3142354, 09-6441500, 084-230529, 01-2692631 or contact the nearest police station.
While briefing the Senate on the investigations being carried out by the commission in all the states of the federation on September 27, chairman of the EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, had declared that Prince Abubakar Audu fled the country when he got a hint that the commission was about to close in on him.
A source, however, told Daily Sun that the alert on Audu became necessary because the commission wanted other international agencies to be aware. The commission is also working with the theory that Audu may have fled to London.
