Attack on Ladoja's house: CP exonerates assailants

The Nigeria Police, Oyo state command, has released an interim report on the attack on the residence of Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, former governor of Oyo state, saying its investigations showed that the assailants did not enter the building.

The Nigeria Police, Oyo state command, has released an interim report on the attack on the residence of Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, former governor of Oyo state, saying its investigations showed that the assailants did not enter the building.

In a release signed by the state police commissioner, Jonathan Johnson, who was among those redeployed in the recent redeployments in the force, the command said a group of persons, numbering around 20, were seen in suspicious circumstances around the residence of the former governor, firing gun shots into the air.

'On challenge by the Police Mobile Force personnel posted on guard duty at the residence, the attackers who were yet to enter the premises replied that they were not robbers, but were on a mission to burn down the building. In a bid to secure the house and ward off the attackers, the PMF personnel released several shots from their rifles as a result of which the invaders all scampered away towards the Sango direction of Osuntokun street," the CP said.

As though to support its earlier position that no one was killed in the attack and in a declaration that seemed to pre-empt its own forensics report, the CP claimed that the command had deduced that some reddish substance splattered on the sidewalk close to the house, which would ordinarily have created the impression of blood stains, might have been deliberately placed there. This he said was because, ' according to the PMF personnel on guard there, there was no direct shot fired into the midst of the invading hoodlums. Some samples of the red substance have however been scooped for forensic analysis."

In concluding, he added that there had been no reports of any injury to any occupant of the residence of the former governor of the security personnel on duty.
'There has also not been any report of any casualty at any station in connection with the incidence."
The CP said the command was however intensifying investigations to unearth the idenitity of the attackers and bring them to book.
