Separated Siamese Twins Back Home


The international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos was for many hours yesterday agog with celebrations as hundreds of Lagos State Government officials and well-wishers trooped to the airport to welcome home the co-joined twins who were through operation successfully separated in the United States of America recently.

Mrs Oluremi Tinubu wife of Lagos State Governor and two commissioners as well as other top government functionaries were on hand to receive the twins and their parents, Mr and Mrs Shobowale-Davies who accompanied the twins for the operation in the United States of America.

For about three hours, scores of enthusiastic groups, many of them dressed in the same attire had engaged themselves in a frenzy, singing, drumming and dancing while awaiting the arrival of the twins.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Leke Pitan and his counterpart in the Chieftancy and Local Government Affairs, Chief(Mrs) Oluremi Adiukwu-Bakare were also among the waiting group.

While the anxious crowd waited for the British Airways plane to land, the Lagos First Lady later arrived the airport and was ushered into the departure hall by drummers.

The excited crowd went into jubilation on sighting the twins as they kept surging forward just as passengers who were making efforts to travel abroad could not help but struggle to catch a glimpse of the lucky tots.

Earlier, Pitan had told newsmen that the separation of the twins which was done at the John Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, United States of America was through a very sophisticated laser technology with in-built mecahnism to avert bleeding.
