A street fight between Austin Obasi, Dennis Ofoke and Sunday Igboke has left Austin dead. In the course of the fight, Dennis allegedly hit Austin on the head with a bench.

Dennis Ofeke, a hawker and five others were arrested and detained at the Lagos State Criminal Investigative Department while Sunday Igboke is on the run. Detectives told Saturday Sun that Austin and his group allegedly engaged in a fight over a bench that belonged to Dennis Nwaofe.

They were, however, challenged by Dennis and Sunday. In the heat of the fight Dennis who was alleged to be the most vociferous and controversial allegedly smashed Austin’s head with the bend in dispute.

Nwaofe, a gala hawker absolved himself of any involvement in the murder. He claimed he was sitting outside with his friends when some drunken boys came and threw cigarette at them.

In order to avoid trouble, he took the bench indoors but the boys came and forcefully removed the bench. “Some minutes later I came outside and met the deceased on the floor bleeding. I did not touch him. I was arrested because the bench that was used to kill him is mine.”

Dennis (18) on his part admitted to have slammed the bench on Austin. According to him, when those boys were fomenting trouble, he was with Sunday Igboke and they tried scare them away but this led to a serious fight. “ We both used the bench as a weapon to fight when the bench hit Austin hard on the head in error and he started bleeding. I ran away only to be arrested when Austin was confirmed dead.”
