Presidency alleges threat to lives of top officials by Atiku camp

The on-going face-off between President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku Abubakar has assumed a frightening dimension, with the presidency alleging moves by what it called elements sympathetic to the vice president to eliminate a number of top government functionaries.

The on-going face-off between President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku Abubakar has assumed a frightening dimension, with the presidency alleging moves by what it called elements sympathetic to the vice president to eliminate a number of top government functionaries.

In a statement yesterday signed by the Special Assistant to the president on Public Affairs, Mallam Uba Sani, the presidency said those behind the plot had perfected their plans.

It said it had only two days ago alerted the country to a well laid out plan by the Atiku camp to carry out a comprehensive smear campaign against the president, following which those involved became even more desperate.

“In a well laid out plan code named ‘Search and Destroy,’ the following ministers and aides of the president have been marked for elimination: Mallam Nasir el – Rufai, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Bayo Ojo, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Frank Nweke Jnr, minister of Information, Chief Femi Fani Kayode, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Remi Oyo, senior special assistant to the president, Media, Chief Akin Osuntokun, Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, and Mallam Uba Sani, special assistant to the president on Public Affairs’, it further alleged.

According to the presidency, the group has also employed what it called “digital terrorism” to cause mental torture and psychologically weigh the officials down with threatening phone calls and damning text messages.
