Obasanjo/Atiku feud may truncate democracy, warns MDJ

The Movement for Democracy and Justice (MDJ), has warned the nation that the Obasanjo/Atiku feud may truncate the present political dispensation if not properly handled.

The Movement for Democracy and Justice (MDJ), has warned the nation that the Obasanjo/Atiku feud may truncate the present political dispensation if not properly handled.

Giving the warning in Lagos at the weekend, the National Chairman of MDJ, Chief Joyce Osula, said the crisis within the presidency, apart from being a threat to Nigeria's corporate existence would further dent Nigeria's image in the eyes of the international community.

Speaking to Daily Sun in Ikeja, Chief Osula, said his party is sad about the level of corruption being revealed by the presidency and Atiku's faction, concerning their (Obasanjo/Atiku)'s official performances as [president and vice president of Nigeria.
According to him, the revelation has portrayed Nigeria as a corrupt nation before the entire international community.

Said he: 'The way we (Nigerians) look at the crisis between President Olusegun Obasanjo and his vice, Atiku Abubakar, was that they were two good friends from the same party. It is difficult to believe that their disagreement could degenerate to this level."

Chief Osula however said that Chief Obasanjo as the head of state was carrying the matter too far. 'I look at the Head of State as the father that must instill discipline in the people of the country. But he is carrying the matter too far. A father must have the mind of forgiveness, and be extremely tolerant. "Chief Osula went further: 'In the essence of trying to wipe out corruption, Obasanjo took his own deputy to the National Assembly for some offences. But he did not know that by exposing his deputy, he is indirectly indicting and exposing himself to ridicule.
'By exposing his deputy and himself, he is also exposing the nation to the outside world as a corrupt nation," he said.

Chief Osula said the MDJ is opposed to corruption but the way and manner the presidency is going about it, smacks of bias.
'Although, the MDJ, is an opposition party and we are supposed to expose the federal government for being corrupt, but we are a party of natured people who could not be carried away by the antics of the presidency," he stated. Chief Osula called on all well-meaning Nigerians to wade into the Obasanjo/Atiku feud before more damage is done to Nigeria's image.
