A widow and former member of the Christian Praying Assembly, (CPA), Mrs. Felicia Ekwugha has sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State CID, Panti Yaba, in Lagos for the recovery of her N3.5m from the building committee of the church.
A widow and former member of the Christian Praying Assembly, (CPA), Mrs. Felicia Ekwugha has sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State CID, Panti Yaba, in Lagos for the recovery of her N3.5m from the building committee of the church.
Ekwugha said that about four years after she supplied building materials like tippers of sand and woods for the construction of the church, all efforts to get paid have been fruitless. She is therefore seeking the assistance of the police to get payment for the job, especially now that its General Overseer, Emeka Ezeuko is in detention.
Narrating her story to Saturday Sun, Mrs. Ekwugha said that she joined the church in 2002 when it was at Airport Road. They relocated to Ajao Estate when the building was razed down by some youths in the area.
'We were then worshiping on an open ground when Emeka Ezeuko called me to the altar. He asked me to kneel down and asked me to fill the compound with tippers of sand, as I would be paid thereafter. With hope that I was dealing with a true man of God I was able to secure a loan with the help of my brother. After supplying the items as promised, I asked for my money only to be told that I would be paid later."
Mrs. Ekwugha who claimed that the supplies were not documented because of mutual trust added, however, that one Mr. Nnaji, the building committee supervisor kept record of all the expenses.
'I pleaded with the General Overseer who referred me the building committee headed by Mr. Okey Eze who happened to be his in-law. I contacted him but he too simply referred me to the General Overseer."

Ekwugha explained that during one of her efforts to get payment, she was invited in by the General Overseer who had seen her pass by the church. 'He asked who is passing by that gate. I said it was I, because I could not run. If I did, I would have been caught by two of his thugs on stand by. '
'Right in front of the whole congregation, he asked one Pastor Chinwe King to give me a very big knock on my head. She did just that, but I stayed there. He also directed one Mr. Okey Eze, his in-law and chairman of building committee to pay the money only to post me."
She claimed King sent some of the girls, 'about 30 of them to beat me up. One day, after they humiliated me at the night vigil, I went to see him in his office along with one Mrs. Nnaji and Mrs. Arinze. You won't believe he ordered those girls to strip us naked."
She stated that since 2004 when she took the bank loan to finance the project, the whole credit has accumulated to N3.5m. I was told the only condition by which I could be paid was to return to the church.
She called on the police to help sort the matter because as a widow, she could not afford legal fees.
