Community protests detention of Orji

Arondizuogu Community in Onitsha yesterday marched in protest against the continued detention of their President-General, Chief Aloysius Orji, otherwise known as ‘‘High tension'' who was arrested by the Anambra Police Command.

Onitsha - Arondizuogu Community in Onitsha yesterday marched in protest against the continued detention of their President-General, Chief Aloysius Orji, otherwise known as ‘‘High tension'' who was arrested by the Anambra Police Command.

The placard-carrying protesters comprising youths, men and women in Onitsha called on governor Peter Obi, the Police Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police to release their son, saying that he was neither an arsonist nor an armed robber as alleged.
Spokesman for the group and the Assistant Secretary of the Arondiuzogu Development Union (ADU), Mr. Owunna Okoro told reporters that Orji was arrested and detained based on frivolous petitions by his enemies in the Bridge Head market which he was the leader.
He said their protest was to request government that justice should be done in the matter by either releasing or prosecuting him without further delay.

'The problem in the Bridge Head Market has always been instigated by one chief who uses a leading non-governmental organisation.''
He said that since he lost election in the Bridge Head Market Association, he had resorted to using his position to blackmail and malign fellow traders, particularly the president of the association (Orji).

Okoro described as false and baseless, allegation by the NGO that one Obinna Ezechukwu was killed in the market by High tension, explaining that Obinna sustained injury during a scuffle with the market task force and had been treated and settled.
