ITSEKIRI nation celebrated greatness and achievement weekend when the Itsekiri National Heritage (INH) organised a luncheon party to honour the first black woman and Nigerian to become the Mayor of Warwick, England, United Kingdom, Madam Orighomisan Mcfarland (nee Edukugho).
WARRI - ITSEKIRI nation celebrated greatness and achievement weekend when the Itsekiri National Heritage (INH) organised a luncheon party to honour the first black woman and Nigerian to become the Mayor of Warwick, England, United Kingdom, Madam Orighomisan Mcfarland (nee Edukugho).
They also honoured the first Itsekiri to be appointed as a judge of the Court of Appeal (JCA), Justice Alfred P. E. Awala.
The ceremony was put together by the Itsekiri National Heritage (INH), a group of professionals dedicated to crystalising efforts of Itsekiri people in the area of peace, progress and human development, even they also aim at working closely with government and their neighbours with a view to restoring and sustaining total peace, fair play, justice and development.
According to the chairman of INH, Chief Willy Edema-Ofoni in his address of welcome 'the glory of the occasion is that we are celebrating these achievement to encourage excellence, hardwork, honesty and professionalism", stressing that 'these appointments have made us proud as a people committed to the pristine virtue integrity and honour which are the hallmark of the Itsekiri people".
Madam Mayor Mcfarland was recently invested as the Mayor of Warwick, a town in England while Justice Alfred P. E. Awala was recently elevated to the coveted position of Judge of the Court of Appeal on June 8, 2006.
Responding on behalf of the honourees, Justice A P E Awala thanked the INH or the patriotic gesture, saying that it will encourage them and other Itsekiris all over the world to aim at the highest office in their chosen careers.
The august occasion that had the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 11, C O N, as father of the day has Prof. Grace Alele- Williams as chairman and Prof. S T Emiko Bajah as guest lecturer.
