Kanu predicts doom for Niger

British canonised Nigerian striker, Nwankwo Kanu, is ecstactic over the form of the Super Eagles players, saying it would aid the fall of the visiting Niger players on Saturday when Nigeria and Niger wrestle for the Nations Cup 2008 ticket in Ghana.

The amiable new Portsmouth forward, who has netted four goals so far in the Premiership this season, is delighted that all the invited Eagles are in the best form, and rearing to go.
'Nigeria deserves the best and we'll give our best against our opponents on Saturday," Kanu said yesterday (Wednesday) before leaving London to join the Eagles camp in Abuja. 'I'm impressed with the young players in the team. In fact, we are to give the upcoming ones direction and encourage them to do their best. This is my role in the team now.

'I would have traveled earlier but after the Monday's games it's good to rest and relax your muscles before moving on. I don't want to be nervous when I get on the pitch on Saturday?"
Kanu, who is likely to captain the Super Eagles on Saturday against Niger, does not think the captaincy for now is a big deal. He said if Jay Jay Okokcha has been invited he will do his job, and that Joseph Yobo is equally a nice guy.

'I want to give Super Eagles 100 per cent commitment in the match now, that you guys say I am in form," he said jokingly. 'I know we'll win but we should not think it's going to be an easy game. We need every fan's support."

Kanu also argued that the rebirth of his career was not an extra-ordinary happening: 'It's a result of hard work and just believing in ones inner strength and a resolve to forget past mistakes and forge ahead to stay on top.

'I don't think one is completely finished in football. You may be tired, but with a new mindset you can overcome the temporary weakness and pump up the adrenaline in your system and shoot for the top.
