The Executive Governor of Abia State of Nigeria and one of the most leading investors in the sub-region of West Africa, His Excellency Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, arrived in The Gambia yesterday on a working visit.
The Executive Governor of Abia State of Nigeria and one of the most leading investors in the sub-region of West Africa, His Excellency Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, arrived in The Gambia yesterday on a working visit.
Governor Kalu, age 44, was received at the Banjul International Airport by Her Excellency Mariyam Mohammed, Nigerian High Commissioner to The Gambia, along with the staff of First International Bank (FIB), Slok Air International, International Insurance Company and the Nigerian Community in The Gambia.
In an interview with newsmen shortly after his arrival, Dr Kalu said he has been in The Gambia for more than 12 years and Gambia is a home to him. Apart from his investment in The Gambia, he is the most single biggest investor in the sub-region of West Africa in the last 12 years.
The young and admirable Governor said that 'Africa must be for Africans and African people must live for Africa."
Dr Kalu was once a Parliament Member in the House of Representative of Nigeria in 1992. 'I am now a two terms governor of Abia State. Next year, I will be seeking for the Presidential seat in Nigeria, which is a reality. I takes inspiration from Presidents like Kennedy, Clinton,Tony Blair and President Puttin of Russia. When they were elected, they were people of my generation and they made it. I have everything that it will take to make it. I have the personality, the education, the region and the money to contest for the Presidential Election in 2007. God has given me the indices, that gives power. I beg God to give me human beings that will support the indices. I have the trust and support of the Nigerian people, and by the will of God I will be the President of Nigeria coming 2007 election," he declared.
The most famous Nigerian Governor Dr Kalu confirmed his cordial and good relationship with the incumbent President Olusegun Obasanjo. ' We might disagree politically, but I have great respect for him and his office. He had done well for Africa," he concluded
Dr Kalu is the proprietor of Slok Air International, First International Bank and International Insurance Company all in The Gambia. He has his biggest business empire in Lagos, Nigeria. He is the only one to owned a company of an Oil spillage cleaning system in Nigeria. He is also the proprietor of Nigeria's leading and largest most read Newspaper, The Sun.
