Yobe Gov kicks off presidential campaign


Yobe State governor, Alhaji Bukar Abba Ibrahim today up the stakes for the 2007 presidential election as he formally flags off his campaign for the race for Aso Rock Presidential Villa on the national level.

A statement from the office of the governor and signed by his Special Assistant, Media, Alhaji Ibrahim Jirgi, quoted the governor as joining the race because 'he is eminently qualified to rule the country".

The Governor who is expected to run on the platform of his All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) will flag off his campaign at a grand ceremony at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre, Abuja.

On his main aim for joining the race, the governor said: Nigeria's problem is nothing but internal conflicts which need to be addressed squarely, collectively and amicably", adding that he possesses every ingredient and quality need to bring this solution to bear.
'I want to become President so that government will be brought to the doorsteps of the common man", the governor declared.
The Abuja event of today is billed to be chaired by Second Republic Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Chief Edwin Ume-Ezeoke.

According to the press statement, the governor had kicked off the campaign from his home base in Yobe State, with a major rally in Damaturu the state capital last Saturday. According to the realese, the Damaturu event was to kick-start the North-East zone campaign.
Governor Ibrahim has been a three-time civilian governor of Yobe State, first occupying the seat during the SDP/NRC days of the aborted Third Republic.
