Ahead of the Premiership opener this weekend, Super Eagles attacker, Nwankwo Kanu is doubtful for his new club, Portsmouth when they file out against Blackburn Rovers at Fratton Park on Saturday.
Reports from Pompey camp indicate that the Atlanta '96 Dream Team captain who has not been involved in any competitive match is facing fitness problem, adding that Manager, Harry Redknapp is under pressure to draft him for the game.
According to the report: 'Redknapp is so short of resources for the clash with Mark Hughes' Rovers that he has to choose between fitness doubts Kanu and Zimbabwe striker Benjani Mwaruwari, the club's record £4.4million signing in January, to partner Svetoslav Todorov in attack on Saturday.
'Kanu has not played a competitive match since relegated West Bromwich Albion dropped him at the end of last season following wage disagreement, and Benjani has a thigh strain due to a summer knee operation."
Commenting on the match, Redknapp said: 'It is the smallest squad I've ever had at the start of a season. We are still at least four players short and a run of injuries would be very bad news for us. We've tried for a long list of big signings but the owners have been ready to put up the money for them. Clubs don't just want to sell their good players and it has been a frustrating time.
However, we still have two weeks before the transfer deadline to put that right and we are still looking to do that. There is no way we can afford to wait until January (the next deadline)."
Meanwhile, there are also strong but unconfirmed indication that the Nigerian forward would be unveiled to the press today.
