Men of the Criminal Investigation Department (C.I.D) of the Edo State Police Command are investigating the circumstances which led an 18-year-old boy, Augustine Ojo, to kill a two and half years old boy, Fidelis Oloja, and conceal his body in a travelling bag.
The suspect and the deceased, Fidelis, were cousins living with their aunty, Mrs. L. Ogiemwonyi, at their Imafidon Street residence in Uwasota area of Benin.
According to police sources, Fidelis was left under the care of the suspect by the aunty who left for work with the husband.
When they returned at 8:pm, they could not find Fidelis nor Augustine, even after a search.
However, when the couples where looking for something in their wardrobe, they saw a travelling bag in which the lifeless body of Fidelis was concealed.
Augustine, who was not seen, was later arrested, according to the Edo State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Peter Ogboi, who confirmed the story.
He said homicide detectives were investigating the incident, adding that the suspect would be charged to court for murder at the end of the investigation.
Daily Sun investigation, however, revealed that Augustine had allegedly been contracted by some persons who wanted human parts. They were said to belong to a cult group into which the suspect was allegedly initiated.
Based on the agreement reached by the parties, those who had placed the order left their mobile phone number with Augustine to enable him call them as soon as he was ready to deliver on the agreement.
Consequently, Augustine was said to have strangled little Fidelis to death, kept him in a bag and was searching for the telephone number, which he apparently misplaced, when his grandmother came into the house and immediately enquired about Fidelis.
Speechless and fidgety, Augustine could not provide an answer even as the grandmother yelled at him, demanding to know the whereabouts of the child.
At this point, Augustine was said to have pointed at the direction of a bag and almost immediately took to his heels.
Daily Sun learnt that when the grandmother opened the bag, she saw the lifeless body of the grandchild and raised alarm, which attracted people, who went after fleeing Augustine. He was caught in an uncompleted building where he was taking refuge in the neighbourhood and handed over to the police.
Daily Sun gathered that Fidelis' mother had died shortly after giving birth to him and he had to be placed under the care of the aunty, Loveth
