Ondo govt poised to contain violent attacks

The Ondo State government said it has raised the level of security in the state to check frequent attacks on government operatives.....

The Ondo State government said it has raised the level of security in the state to check frequent attacks on government operatives by suspected hoodlums.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Sports, Prince John Ola Mafo security agencies in the state have been put on red alert to forestall any attack by hoodlums.

The commissioner, in a statement, condemned the recent attack on the state secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Boluwaji Kunlere and another at the house of a serving member of the state House Assembly, Omogbehin Bamido, before the most recent incident involving Mr. Bimbo Fayolu of the Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority.

He insisted that the state would not wait and watch hoodlums take over the state.
Mafo said Governor Olusegun Agagu had given clear-cut directive to the State Commissioner of Police, the Director of State Security Service and the leadership of other relevant agencies on the need to unravel the mystery of such attacks in the state.

He said: 'We are through this forum calling on the people of the state to keep their calm as the security agencies go about unravelling the reported cases, while putting in place necessary mechanism to forestall future occurrence. We also observe the attempt to brand Ondo State as a violent state.

'While the incidents in reference are highly condemnable and consequently condemned, the government and people of Ondo State still have cause to thank God for the relative peace in our state, given the well known experiences of some other states in the present day Nigeria."

The commissioner condemned the attempt by some people in the state to politicize the incidents, adding that such persons had been sponsoring articles in newspapers in order the portray the government in bad light.
'We call on all emergency columnists/publishers, political jobbers and other related professional alarmists, to allow the police to do their work and to stop spreading falsehood in the state.

'The good people of the state should be rest assured that when it comes to the imperative for peace, nobody in Ondo State has ever demonstrated as much zeal, determination and commitment as Dr. Olusegun Agagu. He has an enviable track record in the management and shooting of crises.

'Here, we are talking of a governor, who with all his security apparatus once changed his route along the popular Oyemekun Road, to seek an alternative road out of town, in order to avoid a clash with AD people who were having a rally by the side of the road," he added.
He however, warned persons who revel in confusion and benefit from chaos to guard against running foul of the laws of the land.
