Detectives probing the assassination of Lagos Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Engr. Funsho Williams have inched closer to busting the crime with the arrest of the Chadian guard who fled the politician's home after the murder.

The detectives Tuesday further raided the Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi where Williams lived until he was brutally murdered on July 27, arresting several other Chadian nationals, who serve as security guards in the sprawling estate. The arrested guards were moved to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon in two commercial buses.

Police sources said their fingerprints were taken to ascertain whether any of them took part in the killing.
Detectives told Daily Sun that they were hot on the heels of the Chadians following the disappearance of the guard from Williams' home and the discovery that the murder weapon, a dagger, is similar to the ones commonly found on the Chadian nationals.

Daily Sun learnt that Williams' Chadian guard was arrested on Monday in the home of the former occupant of the vacant duplex in the late governorship aspirant's compound. The duplex is owned by Williams. It was vacated four months ago by the occupant who moved to another location within Lagos, leaving the guard behind.

Impeccable police sources said the runaway suspect was firmly in their net.
According to the sources, the police were determined to unravel the mystery surrounding Williams' assassination and put an end to widespread insinuation that the Nigerian police was ineffective.
"Our officers and men are on top of the matter and by God's grace, the hard nut of this dastardly act would be cracked.

"We are intensifying investigations. The police is determined to successfully resolve this. The public should be patient and at the appropriate time, the perpetrators will be known," a source said.
Earlier, police investigators had arrested the late Williams' cook, simply identified as Francis and his media assistant, Frank Uzuagbunam in the bid to get the killers.

Daily Sun had exclusively reported that the crime busters who zeroed in on domestic aides of the slain politician as possible perpetrators of the killing nabbed the cook with N5 million and an international travel passport on the day Williams was found dead.

The cook was alleged to have earlier withdrawn a huge amount from his account, which the detectives suspected could have been part payment for the job before he went for the N5 million found on him at the time of his arrest.

In their bid to determine whether the killing had any political undertone, the police had arrested 15 PDP governorship aspirants in Lagos.
Besides those arrested on Tuesday and the governorship aspirants, no fewer than 18 other suspects are in police net over the murder.
