A group which called itself the "Movement of the Niger Delta People (MONDP)" yesterday claimed responsibility for the kidnap of a German national, Mr. Didone Shephard last Friday and demanded for the release of Alhaji Asari Dokubo and former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha as conditions for his release.

The group acknowledged that they kidnapped the German on August 2 and took him deep into the creeks at a private location. They also carpetted the compensation method of B&B, the employers of the kidnapped victim and warned they would hit them harder if they did not change their style of working in the Nigerian environment.
"We want to state categorically that our demands are as follows:
"The immediate release of our Supreme Leader, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo from detention. We are totally dissatisfied with the way and manner the trial of Dokubo is being carried out and we are tired and fed up with the unnecessary newspaper publications concerning the trial. We demand his immediate release as we do not trust the Federal Government's handling of the trial anymore.
"The immediate release of our Great Niger Delta Icon, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha. We are also unimpressed with the way the trial of Alams is being handled and we demand his immediate release and sound this dire warning that no harms should befall him between now and his release, otherwise the entire Nigerian nation will shake.

"We also demand that the company B&B must henceforth desist from its nefarious regime of dubious compensation and miserly provision of infrastructural amenities to the host communities where it has been operating for several years . We are totally unhappy with B&B especially over the fact that the company has failed to address the needs of the people. We want an immediate change of this policy and demand more jobs for our youths, better provisions of welfare amenities and the provision of greater infrastructure for the host communities", they stated.

The movement said they are not interested in any ransome for the release of Shephard whom they said have been accorded the best treatment, adding, "we emphasise that we are not after ransome money for this action. We only desire that our demands as stated above are met with dispatch".
