Ekiti is not broke -Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has said the state is not broke as there is over N3.5billion in its accounts.....

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has said the state is not broke as there is over N3.5billion in its accounts .

He spoke in Ado-Ekiti on Friday while distributing funds to the first set of beneficiaries of the Ekiti State Micro-Credit Finance Scheme.

The governor debunked the rumour that the state had been milked dry.

He said, 'Ekiti State is not broke. We are meeting our obligations both to workers, contractors and others as at when due. We have over N3.5billion in our accounts and that is despite the fact that we collect one of the least allocations in the federation.

'We are also empowering the people of the state like what we are doing here today."

He was reacting to the insinuations that the state's treasury had been looted, leading to the ongoing probe of some projects by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Also, the 2006 budget of the state, as signed into to law by the governor, is already on the internet.

The public can access it on www.ekitinigeria.net. The step, according to the state government, is to allow people to monitor the finances of the state and see how the document is being implemented.

The governor, who supervised the distribution of over N20 million to the first set of beneficiaries of the programme, said N100 million had been earmarked by the state government for it.
