Yenagoa - A Yenagoa based non-governmental organisation, Alliance for Peaceful Transition 2007 has expressed concern over the escalation of tension in the polity and pleaded with the political class in Bayelsa State to play to the rules of the game so as to avoid violence.
The chairman of the group, Mr. Graham Ipigansi, who made the appeal in an interview in Yenagoa, said the Bayelsa had gone through turbulent periods in its existence as a state.
According to him, this ugly scenario has greatly affected its development in terms of infrastructure, human and material resources as well as the negative picture painted before the nation and the international community.

Lamenting the Bayelsa situation, Ipigansi, a former member of the National Assembly representing the Ogbia federal constituency noted that the current sad turn of events between the political gladiators in the state has further polarized the stakeholders in the state who instead of presenting a formidable front to fight against their common enemy which is the central government are dancing to the drums of the enemy.

His words, 'the Alliance for Peaceful Transition 2007 has foreseen the unhealthy rivalry amongst politicians in Bayelsa State and believes that it will not augur well for the overall development of the state." He added that since election is a process of selecting political office holders it should not be seen as a do or die affair but a friendly competition, keenly contested where the winner carries everybody along as one big family. To this end, he disclosed that the group would be meeting with all stakeholders as well as people at the grassroots to chart a new course for the young state in the interest of peace.
