BENIN - A BENIN magistrate court yesterday remanded three persons in the Federal Prisons Oko, Edo State for allegedly raping a 60 year-old woman to death, just as a 20 year-old girl who attempted suicide because she caught her boy friend with another lady has been hospitalised in Benin City.
Vanguard gathered that the accused persons Osaigbovo Asemota, Osaze Michael and Roland Izekor stormed the residence of the woman located at Umele quarters on April 2,2006 raped her to death before neighbours raised an alarm and they were apprehended and handed over to the police after the neighbours discovered the lifeless body of the woman.
The prosecution in-charge of the case alleged that the accused persons on April 2 conspired to rape the deceased which resulted to her death. The four count charge leveled against the accused persons was read before the court but no plea was taken, being a case punishable under section 309 of the criminal code.
However, the Margistrate Peter Asemota declined jurisdiction and ordered that their case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution while the accused were remanded in the prison. The case was adjourned to August 23,2006.
Meanwhile the 20 year-old girl (names withheld), Vanguard gathered went to spend the night with her boy friend who resided along Siluko road but unfortunately for her she met the said boyfriend with another lady after they have concluded arrangements for their wedding.
It was learnt that the girl who went back to her parents house, locked herself inside and took over dose of nivaquine capsule. It was further learnt that the mother who felt worried after the girl refused to show up, raised an alarm after she requested that the door be forced open and found her daughter half dead on the floor.
When Vanguard visited the private clinic where the girl was receiving treatment yesterday, she was lying on the bed while the doctor and nurses were making frantic efforts to save her life. One of the nurses at the hospital told Vanguard that 'the girl took overdose of nivaquine capsule, but she was lucky they brought her to the hospital in time if not she would have died.
