ABUJA - PRESIDEN TIAL Adviser on Policy and Programmes, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere has commiserated with residents of Benin City, Edo State whose properties were lost to last Wednesday's rainfall that submerged most parts of the ancient city; assuring them that their woes would become history if they vote rightly in the 2007 general elections.
Speaking with Vanguard in his office at the Aso Rock Villa Abuja yesterday, Prof. Ihonvbere regretted that the people of the ancient city had to continuously suffer a problem of flooding after seven years of democratic rule in the country.
In his words, 'even in the Bible where the great flood was recorded to have been sent as punishment to the entire world; God had mercy at a time and life returned to normalcy. 'It is a shame that after seven years of uninterrupted civil rule in this country, a state like Edo that draws one of the biggest funds from the Federal Government has to wallow in abject misrule and the people have to go through the wanton loss of valuable property to flood at this time of human development.
'In well planned places where leadership and governance works, people are told of natural disasters where meteorologists accurately announce forecasts and the people are adequately catered for even where the situation is predicted to be beyond human control.
