Children need greater attention … as FBC graduates 16

Parents, teachers, the government, and voluntary organizations have been charged to devote more attention to the young ones.....

Parents, teachers, the government, and voluntary organizations have been charged to devote more attention to the young ones if the society hopes to create good leaders of tomorrow.

This injunction was re-emphasised by educationists and other dignitaries who converged at the first graduation ceremony of Faith Baptist College (FBC), Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Sixteen students graduated in different grades as pioneers.

A United States-based scholar and evangelist, Rev Mkem Osigwe, said nothing done to make children useful could be regarded as too much. The pioneer head of board of the school said societies that wished themselves well ensured that their offspring get the best of attention, education, healthcare, and moral upbringing.

Speaking, a prominent Scripture Union leader, Mr Ellis Iyoyo, made it clear that 'academics without Christ is doomed". He said St Paul made it clear that Christ must be formed in children just as it was done in the Galatian times.

He urged students going on long break to join school camps and avoid harmful associations.

Chairman of the graduation ceremony, Mr Abiye Briggs, applauded the FBC as a school where cultism, exam fraud and indiscipline have no room. He urged the students to always imbibe the habit of punctuality.

A parent, Mr Ignatius Chukwu, reminded the graduands that the world ahead of them was different from the padded life in a mission school. 'This may be the last time you may get justice, scores, grades, and certificates without paying for it".

In his keynote address, the principal, Mr Charles Akah, paid glowing tribute to the pioneer principal, I. D. Amachree, whom, he said, put in much to give the school sound footing.

Akah said FBC has maintained 100 per cent record in junior certificate examinations and that some students have already won international academic competitions, with five Shell scholarship awards.

Chituru Wowen Amadi, Robert Ade Samuel and Obomate Elekima Wilcox came tops as best graduating students.

A total of 16 students graduated as pioneer students of the college.
