The appointment of Lt. General Owoye Andrew Azazi as the country's Chief of Army Staff has proved that people from South-South in general and Ijaw nation in particular could hold positions in the nation and perform creditably as any other person from any part of the country.

The Adviser to the Bayelsa State Governor on Political Matters, Chief Asara O. Asara, who stated this while exchanging views with journalists in Yenagoa, said that contrary to naïve opinions in certain quarters that people from the geo-political zone cannot effectively hold top-most political position of the country, the appointment of General Azazi, an Ijaw man, has proved them wrong.

Chief Asara remarked that the appointment has further proven that Bayelsa State, which is the centre of the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta, has qualified manpower and men of integrity that could make meaningful inputs to the development of the country.

He said Azazi rose to his present rank by dint of hardwork, having come from a minority area, and urged other Bayelsans to aspire to the zenith in their chosen endeavours.

He commended President Olusegun Obasanjo for the appointment, saying that the reception organised by the state government was to showcase Governor Goodluck Jonathan's appreciation of a worthy son of the state who had made it at the national level.
