Three persons who the police described as notorious criminals have been nabbed and they are now cooling their feet behind police bar pending their prosecution.
The suspects, Onyinyechi Awuo, Augustine Ariraitu and Peter Onyeuche claimed that they were natives of Mbano in Imo State were caught following a complain lodged by one Ibani Goddy, a lecturer in Political Science Department of Niger Delta University, Amassoma.
According to the police, the complainant had parked his vehicle between the Instant Reaction office and the State Treasury Yenagoa, when one of the suspects in company of others, used master key to force the vehicle's door open with intent to steal items therein.
However, luck ran out of them when they were spotted by a member of police patrol team. On sighting the police, they took to their heels but one of them, Onyinyechi Awuo was eventually arrested and his confessional statement led to the apprehension of others by Anti-Robbery Squad team.
Parading them before newsmen at Area ‘A' Command, Mr. Preseley Dode, a Chief Superintendent of Police, said one motorcycle No. AB 15821 DC and the sum of N21,400 was recovered from one of the suspects.
According to him, police believed the suspects are members of a notorious gang that specialised in forcing people's car open to rob them of their valuables.
He said all the suspects will be charged to court, on conclusion of further investigation and advised residents of Yenagoa metropolis to always be vigilant over their property by reporting any suspicious character to the police.
