The President of the Senate, Chief Ken Nnamani, on Monday challenged the police to fish out Williams' killers. He said that the murder had put them on trial.
'The police authorities must seize this opportunity to demonstrate to Nigerians that the force is capable of conducting criminal investigations that produce credible results with regard to high-profile murders," a statement from the Office of the President of the Senate in Abuja said.
The Senate President added, 'the litany of previous unsolved high-profile murder cases in Nigeria has badly affected the public image of the police." He warned that the Williams' killing 'must not be allowed to end up unresolved."
The Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja branch, has urged President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, to unravel the murderers of Chief Funsho Williams and bring them to book.
The body made the call in a statement by its Chairman, Mr. Niyi Idowu; the General Secretary, Mr. Beckley Abioye; and the Publicity Secretary, Mr. Mohammed Buhari, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent on Monday.
Lamenting growing insecurity in the country, the body said the assassination of Williams, a Lagos State gubernatorial aspirant, should not go the way of 'many unresolved killings" in the past.
It added that the culture of impunity must stop and that the law enforcement agencies must wake up to their duties of ensuring safety of human lives and property.
Also, the Nasrul-Lahi-Il-Fathi Society of Nigeria has condemned the killing.
The organisation in a statement on Monday urged the Federal Government and the police to fish out the perpetrators.
It said, 'This, we believe, is one of the best ways to put an end to the recurrence of such evils."
The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties said that the invitation of the British Police to unravel the killers had exposed the ineptitude of the present administration.
The National Publicity Secretary of the CNPP, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, in a statement in Abuja on Monday, said despite the huge revenue that accrued to the administration, it had regrettably failed to equip the Nigeria Police Force.
