The Lagos State chapter of the Alliance for Democracy on Monday described the Peoples Democratic Party as a party with a record of violence.
The AD in a statement by the State Secretary, Alhaji Lateef Raji, said the statements credited to some leaders of the party following the killing of Chief Funsho Williams, further confirmed the AD's position.
The party alleged that the PDP had in the last few months heightened the spate of political violence in the state. It added that this was what prompted the police to invite the leaders of the PDP to sign peace undertakings.
The AD said, 'Popular opinion relies heavily on the antecedent created at the campaign rallies of the PDP in Lagos State in the last two months. From Badagry to Gbagada to Ketu to Ikorodu, it was a trail of violence where dangerous weapons that included cutlasses and guns were freely used."
The Pacesetters, a political group in Oyo State, in its statement said political violence would only take the country many years backward.
The statement by Mr. Fatai Erewunmi, quoted the Chairman of the group, who is also a governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Dr. Adebayo Adewusi, as saying that political killings were becoming part of the present dispensation.
Adewusi said, 'From Oyo State to Kano, Rivers to Ekiti, Plateau, what we are having now is capable of scaring away those who are genuinely determined to bring service delivery to governance.
Killing in the name of politics is barbaric and our system must put a stop to this."
Also, the Lagos State chapter of the Democratic Peoples Party, in a statement by its chairman, Alhaji Jamiu Egbodoku, lamented that since 2001, there had been over 22 assassinations, while the police had failed to unravel any.
