PORT HARCOURT - FIRST female vice-chancellor in Nigeria and former Vice-Chancellor of University of Benin, Prof. Grace Alele-Williams has said that the interest of the South-South people in the presidency of Nigeria 'is enough reason for leaders of the zone to harness their resources."
By so doing, she said, it would help 'in ensuring a tranquil enviroment and unity of purpose in the pursuit of the goal" of seeking the presidency.
Alele-Williams who was in Port Harcourt for a ceremony and fielded questions from the press, stated that 'when we have peace we will have tranquility. When we have tranquility, we will think".
She said the region has played leading roles in conceiving new initiatives and the sustenance of nationalistic goals in various sectors in Nigeria.
She advised that since the region now had interest in the presidency, it was progressive for leaders to unite in pressing home their aspiration.
'The only thing we must do now is to work together for peace, because when there is peace, there will be more time to think and introduce new things and hopefully we are gunning for the presidency", she said.
Alele-Williams prasised Governor Peter Odili for his robust achievements and type of leadership. She was particularly impressed by the independent power project in the state. 'He has been wonderful and done excellently well.
The independent power project is conceived to ensure that we use our resources, especially our gas, to ensure that there is light and power in every nook and cranny, while hoping that governors of other states housing gas deposits do the same".
She called on the people of the South -South not 'to dissipate energy in attending to statements attempting to paint the zone in bad light since, the region is not lacking behind .
