The Police in Kano have arrested a middle-aged woman (names withheld) for attempting to sell a six-year-old girl for N20,000.
Our correspondent gathered that the woman had approached a trader at the Kware Textile Market with a proposal to sell the girl.
The trader played along with her, haggling over the price, until they both arrived at N20,000.
Unknown to the suspect, the trader had contacted his colleagues and the police and she fell into the waiting arms of police detectives when she brought the victim.
The Police Public Relation’s Officer, Baba Mohammed, a deputy superintendent of police, confirmed the incident, on Sunday, saying, “The suspect will soon appear in court.”
Mohammed explained that the suspect was unable to explain her relationship with the victim.
He also said the police had been able to trace the parents of the victim who denied any relationship with the suspect.
