The chairman of Nsit Eket Local Government Area, Mr. Imo Udobia, has said that the incessant invitation of some of his colleagues by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is hampering their performance.

Speaking at a senatorial district forum in Eket on Saturday, he explained that most local government chairmen meant well for their people and would continue to provide dividends of democracy for them.

Udobia said, 'If a local government chairman finds himself visiting the EFCC several times, he will definitely not be able to concentrate. Incessant petitions always lead to regular invitations by the EFCC, and these affect our job. We need to be focused."

Also speaking at the occasion, a member of the House of Representatives, Chief Ndueso Essien, called on the people of Eket Senatorial District to work towards clinching the governorship position of Akwa Ibom State in 2007.

Essien, who is representing Eket Federal Constituency, noted that power shift should not be done on ethnic basis.

Pointing out that Eket remained the largest senatorial zone with 12 local government areas and produced the bulk of the resources in the state, Essien said that the senatorial district should be allowed to produce the next governor.

He recalled that Eket was not new in producing good materials for the governorship position, adding that both Dr. Clement Isong and Chief Udoakaha Esuene performed creditably during their times as governors.
