A woman has been made to pay the supreme sacrifice for not telling her son who the real father is. Chinyere Okorie was killed, when her son knocked her down and battered her face with a padlock after a slight quarrel.
A woman has been made to pay the supreme sacrifice for not telling her son who the real father is. Chinyere Okorie was killed, when her son knocked her down and battered her face with a padlock after a slight quarrel.
Pleading guilty in police custody, Henry, 19, said that he did not know what came over him.
He said: "I woke up early that Saturday morning to do my house chores. I washed the plates and mopped the floor. I was going to the bathroom to have my bath with a bucket of water. Some of the water spilled on the floor and my mum started shouting on me. She told me that I was very careless. She even said that I never did anything well. I shouted back at her and said that she should take me to my father if she was fed up with me.
"That statement made her angry. She gave me a slap. As she was about to give me another slap, I pushed her down. She landed on the floor with her head and blood was gushing out of her mouth and nose. I was shocked. I was hitting her with the padlock to the house which I was holding."
While he was in the act, his aunt walked in. She raised an alarm and neighbours rushed the unfortunate woman to Ikeja General Hospital. It was too late as she was confirmed dead.
Henry was later handed over to the police by his aunt and neighbours. Expressing regrets, he said: " I am very sorry. I have been begging the spirit of my late mother to forgive me. I also want our family members to forgive me".
Henry was the only son of his mother before she met her untimely death.
