An explosion suspected to have resulted from adulterated kerosene has disfigured two women in Ebonyi State, causing one of them, who was pregnant to deliver prematurely.

An explosion suspected to have resulted from adulterated kerosene has disfigured two women in Ebonyi State, causing one of them, who was pregnant to deliver prematurely.

The two women, who live in the same area, Amike Ezzamgbo, popularly called 135, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state was said to have bought the kerosene last November and December 2005.

The pregnant woman, Mrs. Modester Ani, mother of one, told Daily Sun at the Ebonyi State University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki that she was pouring kerosene into her lantern when the explosion occurred.

The woman, who is in her late 20s, is from Ishielu LGA of the state and a second year student of the Teachers' Training College, Igbeagu, in Izzi LGA.
Following the shock, she delivered her seven-month-old-baby, who is currently in an incubator at the hospital.

Forty-year-old Mrs. Ngozi Onuoha, from Owerri Imo State, was badly burnt and she is currently at the intensive care unit of the Abakaliki Teaching Hospital. She revealed that she was also pouring the kerosene into her lantern when it exploded, giving her severe burns.
