militants operating in the Niger Delta have vowed to sabotage the planned Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas project in Ondo and Ogun states.
The threat was contained in a statement made available to our correspondent by the Joint Revolutionary Council in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The statement which was circulated via the electronic mail read, 'I hereby announce the total rejection of the planned Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas Project in Ondo and Ogun states.
'Let us state in very clear terms that we will destroy this project. We will sabotage the pipelines. We will ambush and attack its workers. We will take hostages. 'We will sabotage the project's logistics and vandalise every facility we set our eyes on. That is not all. We will also bring to judgment, the collaborators in this satanic partnership to short-change Niger Deltans."
The JRC is made up of the Niger Delta People Volunteer Force, The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta and The Martyrs Brigade.
The militants said that they would 'not allow another Kaduna Refinery episode to take place."
'Our resources will never again be used to empower another, while we suffer the pains. The end of the end has begun," The JRC said.
The groups argued that if the projects must be cited in Ondo and Ogun states the gas should also be sourced from there.
The militants stated that the decision of the Federal Government, Chevron and Shell to go ahead with the project attested to the arrogance, ignorance and blatant disregard they had for the Niger Delta problems.
They added that the decision had also shown a great disregard for the plight of 'our people and challenged our might.
They said, we are willing and able to confront this challenge. We will not fail. We will, in fact, throw the first stone."
They vowed to abduct or 'taken out" any worker found laying pipes to the areas, adding that 'every shipment with facilities meant for the Olokola project will be destroyed."
