The Peoples Democratic Party, Bayelsa State chapter, and the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state have disagreed over the date for the by-election for Ekeremor constituency 1 in the state House of Assembly.
The Bayelsa Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Alfred Itiedu, told newsmen at the Yenagoa Sports Complex on July 22, 2006, after the party's primary, that the by-election would be held on July 29.
But INEC, through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Timiebi Wariowei, on Wednesday in Yenagoa, said no date had been fixed for the by-election.
He said the announcement by the PDP party was made in error and should be discountenanced.
Wariowei said as soon as clearance was got from INEC's headquarters in Abuja, the date would be made known to Bayelsans.
The vaccum in the house was created by the appointment of Mr. Peremobowei Ebebi as the deputy governor.
The two-time speaker (Ebebi) of the house was on December 28, 2005 nominated by Jonathan as the deputy governor, former governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, was removed by the lawmakers.
