The Deputy Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Pius Ewherido, has joined the 2007 governorship race.
Ewherido declared his interest in Ekakpamre, in Ughelli South Local Government area of the state, on Sunday.
The deputy speaker said he decided to kick start his gubernatorial campaign with an interactive session with his kinsmen in conformity with the time-tested idiom that 'charity begins at home."
Ewherido said it was proper for him to formally inform his kinsmen of his plan to offer himself for high responsibility in the governance of the state.
He said he was eminently qualified for the position in view of his experience as a one time acting speaker and currently deputy speaker.
Ewherido, who was accompanied by some members of the state executive council and his colleagues in the assembly, promised to bring his wealth of experience to bear in the governance of the state and improve on the legacy of the incumbent Governor, Chief James Ibori.
He said, 'I want to build on the solid foundation built by Chief James Ibori. Having worked with him this whole seven years, I have been able to understand government and governance seriously.
'I have a better understanding today of what it takes to manage government's business and people.
'Principally, my intention is to build on that foundation and improve on it in terms of infrastructural development. So much has happened in terms of infras-tructural development, but there is still much to do."
