The Chairman of the National Population Commission, Chief Samuila Makama, on Monday said the provisional results of this year's census would be released in October.

Makama spoke when he paid a courtesy call on the Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in his office.
He said data processing of the census was going on in seven centres.
He said the centres were located in Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Kano and Yola.
Makama reiterated that each of the centres was processing data from a group of states, ranging from four to seven. He added that no state was left out.
The NPC chairman said the centres were equipped with equipment and computers to ensure speedy and orderly processing of the data. He added that each of the three scanners in the Lagos centre could scan 7,500 sheets per hour.
Makama said the commission was confident that the processing of the data would be completed very soon and the results released accordingly.
He said the conduct of the census was a means to an end.
Makama added that it would provide an insight into existing conditions of the society and the people and also serve as a guide to improve these conditions.
He said this was why the commission provided elaborate arrangements for the dissemination and utilisation of the data.
He said, 'Our mission is to ensure unfettered access to demographic data by all Nigerians through a massive programme of dissemination of the census data.
'Our focus will not only be to disseminate information on the total population figures of the nation, state and local government areas, but also on the characteristics of the federation."
