Fourteen illegally retired teachers in Enugu State have been recalled by the State Government, the state chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Chief Uchey Agboeze, has disclosed.
The NUT state chairman who made this known in a chat with journalists in his office, Enugu, stated that of the 21 illegally retired Teachers 7 that were recalled earlier, have already been paid their entitlements in accordance with the condition of service of the Enugu State government.
On the ultimatum given to the State Primary Education Board (SPEB), Chief Agboeze, expressed happiness that the issue at stake had been resolved amicably in the overall interest of the two parties.
According to him, SPEB did not leave any stone unturned in handling the issue as the state NUT executives were invited for dialogue whose outcome he described as very fruitful.
Chief Agboeze therefore, commended the Enugu State government for its concern for teachers, and added that teachers now receive their monthly salaries promptly, and pointed out that no teacher in the state was being owed arrears of salaries by the state government.
He also called on teachers in the state to always give out their best while discharging their duties in respect of their chosen profession, and stated that the importance of teachers in national building worldwide cannot be over-emphasised.
Continuing, Chief Agboeze noted that teachers as character moulders cannot afford to fail in their responsibilities to society in general.
Reacting to the allegation that teachers allow themselves to be used by both INEC and corrupt politicians to rig elections, Chief Agboeze debunked such allegation describing it as baseless, insisting that if there were cases of election and election rigging in the past in Nigeria, the politicians should be held responsible and not teachers as they are innocent of the offence.
