The General Manager of Lufthansa Nigeria and Director, West Africa, Mr. Mike Kahn made this known during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday February 9, 2005.
According to him, "Lufthansa is pleased that after being in Nigeria for about 42 years, we can now extend our services to the South-South region as from 7th April 2005.
We are bringing to Port Harcourt, the same quality service offered by Lufthansa in any part of the world, as will be seen through the development of a brand new aircraft - the airbus A330.800".
He disclosed that the Garden City of Port Harcourt would in a short while, be the latest entry on the Lufthansa world map as passengers from this part of the country can have a flexible and hustle-free, direct connection to any part of the world, as well as enjoy seamless travel offered by the largest airline network on earth: the Star Alliance of which Lufthansa is a founding member.
He went on: "Our direct operation from Port Harcourt, will give our existing passengers tremendous relief from having to travel to Lagos. We offer the very best services available. Our new business class offers our passengers a totally new travel experience. It has the longest bed in its class and a completely new seat concept as well as a unique programme of entertainment and information".
The manager explained that the new schedule consists of three flights weekly - Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, adding that arrival and departure times for these flights have been exactly tailored to the requirements of the Nigerian oil industry and the Lufthansa Traders' Club members.
Mr. Khan pointed our that the Lufthansa flight 562 will depart Frankfurt 10:25hrs and arrive Port Harcourt 15:50 hrs every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday while for return trip, flight 563 will depart Port Harcourt 22;00hrs to arrive Frankfurt 05:25hrs the following day.
Kahn commended Governor Peter Odili for his constant support to Lufthansa and lauded the Hon. Minister of Aviation, Malam Isa Yuguda for facilitating the take-off of Lufthansa services in the Garden City.
Also speaking, the Regional Manager Passenger Sales, Eastern Nigeria, Mr. Chuks Okobi said that the time and opportunity have come for the people of this region to avail themselves of the wonderful services Lufthansa renders, stressing that no matter how good an aviation company might be, healthy competition among companies and operators in the industry help to improve its services.
On what he makes of Lufthansa, Mr. Okobi went on, "We are very socially responsible airline".
